The Berenstain Bears Celebrate 50 Years with New Books! {Giveaway/2 Winners}

The Berenstain Bears were a memorable part of my childhood. I watched the cartoons. I read the books (we owned over twenty of them growing up). And I fell in love with Mama Bear, Papa Bear, Brother Bear, and Sister Bear. I even remember the story that told how they first moved to Bear Country to make room for Sister Bear’s arrival to the family. So cute! The Berenstain Bears family has been giving timely character lessons to kids for years now… 50 years to be exact! That’s right! The Berenstain Bears just celebrated 50 years, and with it the release of an all-new story as well as a compilation book of some of the favorites.

With all the natural disasters that have struck around the world the last few years (like the recent Hurricane Sandy), The Berenstain Bears: Get Involved (retails for $3.99) is the perfect followup to read with the kiddos. It’s an all-new story from the classic Berenstain family, and one that shows how important it is to pitch in and help during a disaster.

The charitable efforts of Brother and Sister Bear are put to the test when a nasty storm floods Bear Country in the new book, The Berenstain Bears: Get Involved. Brother and Sister Bear, who belong to the Cub Club at the Chapel in the Woods, are thinking of ways they can lend a helping hand to their friends and family members (including Cousin Fred) who live by the river. So when Preacher Brown calls for a community rescue mission, the cubs learn valuable lessons as they join their neighbors to help save their friends from dangerous flood waters.

Also new to the Berenstain Bears book series, is three stories about treating others with kindness and respect all combined in one hardcover book! The Berenstain Bears: Treat Others Kindly (retails for $7.99) includes these three heart touching Berenstain Bears books: Show Some Respect, The Gossip Gang, and The Forgiving Tree. These stories change hearts with their important life lessons about respect, forgiveness, and the damage that comes from gossiping.

Show Some Respect: ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ Exodus 20:12 Even good cubs can fall into bad habits and Brother and Sister have gotten into the habit of sometimes treating their Mama and Papa with less than the respect they deserve. A shrug or a grunt or a ‘I dunno’ or ‘who cares?’ when asked a question or given a request is not how youngsters should speak to their eldsters whomever they may be!

The Gossip Gang: ‘Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.’ Proverbs 26:30 Sister gets involved with a group of friends who like to exchange the latest gossip about the other cubs at school. But she loses her enthusiasm when some of the gossip comes back at her.

The Forgiving Tree: When Cousin Fred accidentally damages Brother’s brand-new bike, Brother Bear is angry. Can Sister Bear help him see that forgiving his friend is the right thing to do?

It’s been so fun to reintroduce my children to the Berenstain Bears with these new books. They are simple to read, and the classic illustrations bring the stories to life. Reading through these stories with my children, I’ve been reminded at how wise old Mama Bear and Papa Bear really are, and just how much they can teach my kiddos about living God’s way!

  45. My favorite Berenstain Bears book is probably “The Berenstain Bears Meet Santa Bear” – the cover of my copy was blue, with Sister Bear looking kind of timidly at Santa Claus. I grew up with this series of books, my younger brothers grew up with the tv show, and now that I’m a librarian I enjoy watching more young kids reading these books. They are classics!! :)
